Reaction Principle

Vinyl silicone oil acts as the base polymer of LSR. Its pendant/terminal vinyl groups (Si-CH=CH₂) undergo platinum-catalyzed hydrosilylation addition reaction with Si-H bonds on hydrogen-containing silicone oil. Crosslinking occurs without small molecular byproducts, enabling curing under room temperature or heating conditions. Vinyl silicone oil constitutes the main molecular skeleton of the final cured silicone elastomer.

Core Functions of Vinyl Silicone Oil

Form the main molecular backbone of finished rubber The long polysiloxane chain of vinyl silicone oil builds the basic flexible framework of LSR. The length of the molecular chain directly governs the inherent elasticity, softness and low-temperature toughness of cured products. Longer molecular chains deliver higher elongation and better flexibility; shorter chains bring higher hardness and rigidity.

Provide crosslinking reactive sites Vinyl groups serve as reaction docking points matching Si-H bonds. The vinyl content determines the maximum number of crosslinking positions. Matching the vinyl content of base gum with the hydrogen content of crosslinker is essential to achieve complete curing.

Adjust overall mechanical performance High vinyl content: More crosslinkable sites. After curing, crosslink density rises, hardness and tensile strength increase, while elongation decreases. Low vinyl content: Fewer reaction sites. Cured rubber tends to be softer with larger elongation, yet insufficient crosslink causes surface tackiness and poor solvent resistance.

Control processing viscosity and fluidity The molecular weight of vinyl silicone oil determines system viscosity. Low-molecular-weight vinyl silicone oil reduces viscosity, improves flowability, and suits automated injection molding, thin-layer coating and complex-component potting. High-molecular-weight types raise viscosity, avoid material sagging, and fit thick-layer forming and extrusion processing.

Compatibility with reinforcing fillers Vinyl silicone oil has good miscibility with fumed silica, quartz powder and other reinforcing fillers. It evenly wraps solid fillers to prevent powder agglomeration, guarantee uniform filler dispersion, and stabilize tensile, tear and wear resistance of LSR.

Optimize low-temperature resistance and thermal stability The stable Si-O main chain of vinyl silicone endows LSR with outstanding wide-temperature tolerance. Proper vinyl distribution avoids excessive crosslinking, maintaining flexibility at -60 °C and stable performance under continuous high-temperature exposure.
